Gone But Never Forgotten
Caroline Vavak died in hospital on April 10th, 2015. She was 71. Caroline was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother who never let her diagnosis bring her down. Even in the hospital Caroline was full of life, bringing joy to the nurses who got to know her so well. Caroline is survived by her loving husband Peter, her daughter Sylvia and her granddaughter June. Caroline was born in the UK and immigrated to Santa Fe with her parents George and Edith Philips when she was 7 years old. John owned a successful garment factory in England but was unable to rebuild after the war. In America, Caroline’s mother worked as a waitress until her passing and John became vice-president of a sock factory and proud member of the Free Mason Society. Caroline met her husband Peter Michaels in high school and the two were inseparable until her passing. Caroline and Peter would take Sunday drives into the country every week for the past 20 years and they were often seen at the local diner ordering their favourite meal, pecan pie and decaf coffee. Caroline was passionate about knitting and even started a weekly knitting club out of her home. When Sylvia was born, her entire wardrobe was knit by Caroline, much to the embarrassment of Sylvia in grade school. Caroline will be greatly missed by everyone who was ever touched by her grace and presence.

I will never forget serving you and Peter at the R&R Diner every day at 11:30am for your decaf coffee and pecan pie. It was always the highlight of my day. Thank you for always listening, and being my favorite customers of all time.

Caroline, the world is a little less bright now that you are gone. I miss you dearly and think about you every day. Until we meet again on the other side.

Caroline was the star of our church. She was there every Sunday and immediately lit up the room. I am so sorry for your loss and we all miss her very much. She was a special woman.
